i don't really like lady gaga, but you and jake would do a fantastic cover of any of her songs. "pokerface" would probly be the best bet.
buuuuut how about.. "you belong with me" by taylor swift? it's #2 in the US, and while i haven't heard it, i'm sure a teenage girl's words sung by maniac would be great.
Pokerface by Lady Gaga. It's at every fucking high school dance ever. I've also always wanted to hear Get Low by Lil Jon remixed into something with a melody...
I have no shame in saying I really enjoy Katy Perry's album, so that one would be pretty interesting. Also, there might be a lot of opportunities to promote that one. We shall talk soon.
why is everyone so all up about lady gaga, I'm sick of hearing her tbh - my suggestion is to make a nickleback song sound good (not really a challenge I know) they have "If Today Was Your Last Day" in the charts
I agree with the GaGa suggestions. She looks like she's from the future... Probably all people have both genitalia in the future. Oh, and any of her songs would be good to cover.
Do I get points for being all futuristic and requesting Lady GaGa two blogs ago? haha
If your new rules say unanimity wins, then I put in another vote for GaGa. Paparazzi for me. Shawn, the first thing you need to do is get your ass up on Youtube and watch that video. The irony is a sad realism...and the song theme always reminds me of Shoot me in the smile. Ha, anyway.
BUT, if you're going to take random requests too, then for the sake of corniness I say 'Maniac' by Michael Sembello. I don't know how much, or if, I enjoy that song, but you can't deny the appropriateness haha.
For a sincere request that I would really like to hear you guys interpret I would say 'Man in the mirror' by Michael Jackson. One of my favorite songs ever. Both of these old ones were number 1s in the 80s by the way.
Ok, I'm gonna make like a tree and get outta here. Please tell me someone got that joke. Back to the Future is one of the best fucking movies I've ever seen.
I agree with aarohead... A cover of Lady Gaga's Lovegame would be hilarious beyond words.
I don't think anyone's really going to agree on an old song cause there are way too many really great ones... I think you guys should post a poll or something, maybe have the fans pick out a song from a certain list made of suggestions.. that may be somewhat helpful..
WAY too many great old songs! Our little project with this blog is not to do a series of covers of the best songs in the world, but the #1 songs. As we all can't ignore, it is too rare that the two overlap. But massive amounts of people are connecting with any song that works it's way to the top of the charts. Jake and I were curious to investigate WHY people were drawn to these songs, and to find that essence that we might also be able to relate to, and then reinvent the sound and performance to see if we could connect with it. Our antics overshadow the sociological investigation here, I know, and mostly, we're just having a bit of fun. I CAN"T WAIT to show you guys our REAL SONGS!!! -Shawn
ps- Jake, i don't know if i can say "ride your disco stick" and, uhm, truly connect. I'm leaning toward Taylor Swift.. she's #2 on the chart, and #1 in country.
hahahaha love games would be pretty interesting to hear covered by you guys. hmm, i do like the beatles suggestion as well. perhaps a blast from the past would be nice for a change.
As horrible as it must, must be, Miley Cyrus' Party in the USA is the #1 sold on itunes today, so that kind of counts, right? I think it would be hilarious (and incredible) for you to turn this around Maniac style.
I beg you to lean toward Taylor Swift no longer. It's so miserably worthless. The number one song on the US iTunes store is "Run This Town" by Jay-Z, featuring Rihanna and Kanye West. Have you ever considered covering a rap song?
Aaaw, Taylor Swift always has sweet songs...but you'd have to sing as teenage girls, or change the she's to he's and be teenage boys - maybe go BACK in time for that one? Alternatively, you could be yourselves and be in love with your best friend who is a boy, probably 10 years younger than you, and compete for his heart with his girlfriend who is cheerleader.
Only you guys could make that shit work.
P.S. When you said that stuff about "sociological investigation" I was like Ohhhh, I get it! that's really interesting and shows how much you're not a cover band haha. The antics are great anyway and kinda freaky...in a good way.
and dude, I don't think you know how much we wanna hear the new songs!
yay! i suggested taylor swift! can't wait to hear the cover.. in my opinion, you shouldn't change the "he"s to "she"s. it would make it more interesting to keep the original lyrics. i'm sure you'll have fun connecting to the idea of a teenage girl's fluttering heart. (:
hahaha are you sure "HE wears high heels,He wears short skirts, He's cheer captain" isnt more interesting? Sarahtonin's right, Taylor Swift's songs grows on you like some cute vine. Love Story was addictive.
suggestions for next time...RICH GIRL -- HALL AND OATES. NOW. please. or Hungry Eyes. that'd be a lot of fun. Take On Me by Aha. that one Jerk song. "I'm Shinin" by the pack. SEPERATE WAYS by Journey. this is a train of thought comment. hm, Circus by Britney Spears. Sweet Caroline! Burnin Up by the Jonas Brothers...uhmmm...that one Birthday Sex song! The Pokemon theme...and I think that's about it. haha. OH! Diva by Beyonce or a Michael Jackson song.
i feel an interpretation of a song by any of the disney stars would be pretty amazing. (jonas brothers-burning up, hannah montana/miley cyrus, demi lovato, and the list goes on and on and on.)
21 Guns or Know Your Enemy by Green Day. XD mostly because they are both on the charts right now and I think that if you covered Green Day I'd cream my undies. ~~
Oh so glad Taylor Swift was chosen. It truly is one of my favorite songs ever and just managed to crawl its way to being the top song played on my iTunes, an intense feat. Goodness, I miss you Shawn, I think blowing off Warped in San Diego just became official. See you next week and I can't wait to hear You Belong With Me!
We have the same shirt, what an odd, odd coincidence. And I'm definitely feelin' some Lady Gaga, your cover of that pop star chick would be amazing, I feel it in my bones
I say you either do Party In the USA by Miley Cyrus (or Hannah Montana?) strictly because (1) its number one on iTunes, and (2) you can do it better. That, or Use Somebody, by Kings of Leon. Or Knocked Up, by Kings of Leon.
Lady Gaga? Taylor Swift? Katy Perry? Fuck that. I want to hear you guys remake that Fire Burnin' song. I don't exactly know who sings it or if that's even what it's called, but that would defninitely be a good time.
I was just informed that it may or may not be by Sean Kingston. Who knows...do it anyways!
I know this thread is a bit on the old side but I've just found all this craziness so apologies for my lateness. #1s are cool and all but when I hear a good cover, I'm all about the revival of some awesome songs from my youth. The two that come to mind are "In Your Eyes" Peter Gabriel of Say Anything fame or I think maybe some Psychedelic Furs "Love My Way" just another thought. Cheers boys
nice shirt.
ReplyDelete:]
***and I vote Lady Gaga, or someone mentioned Katy Perry and it made me giggle. either one would be awesome.
ReplyDeleteThey still have the internet in the future. I just commented in the future.
ReplyDeleteJG
Love Game - Lady Gaga or any lady gaga song for that matter I'd just really wanna see what you guys will sound like covering a dance song like that.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I like your shirt...where did you get it? ;)
I agree with Lady Gaga or Katy Perry.
ReplyDeleteI think a Lady Gaga would be interesting...so, I vote for one of those songs
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness, 3 keyboard cat moon shirt. :D
ReplyDeletei don't really like lady gaga, but you and jake would do a fantastic cover of any of her songs. "pokerface" would probly be the best bet.

can't wait for the next cover, whatever it is. (:
Katy Perry indeed!
ReplyDeleteOr try and find a number 1 from this week,
10 YEARS AGO!
Screw the future,
the past is where it's at baby.
Pokerface by Lady Gaga. It's at every fucking high school dance ever. I've also always wanted to hear Get Low by Lil Jon remixed into something with a melody...

Leonard Cohen - Hallelujah. haha that would be interesting...
ReplyDeletei do agree with ppl above; before traveling to the future you should look back at the past.
to be honest i'm sick of hearing lady gaga covers...
ReplyDeletei was thinking that kings of leon song - use somebody - probably been number 1 for rock.
covers of songs with distinctive vocals are interesting imo.
how about the beatles. a day in the life
ReplyDeleteShawn and Jake saying, "I wanna take a ride on your disco stick." FTW
ReplyDeleteI agree with aarohead... A cover of Lady Gaga's Lovegame would be hilarious beyond words.
ReplyDeleteI don't think anyone's really going to agree on an old song cause there are way too many really great ones... I think you guys should post a poll or something, maybe have the fans pick out a song from a certain list made of suggestions.. that may be somewhat helpful..
